Our Story
Mission Statement:
Friends of Belmar Skatepark Inc. believes that skateboarding provides a long-lasting societal benefit to the Borough of Belmar, New Jersey, its residents and visitors by supporting healthy minds and bodies, encouraging creativity and fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging. As the popularity of skateboarding and action sports continue to grow, it is critical that people have a safe place to learn, practice and excel. As a recognized 501(c)(3) organization, it is the mission of Friends of Belmar Skatepark to raise funds for the development, construction and long-term viability of a high-quality, public skatepark located at Dempsey Park in Belmar, New Jersey and create a healthy, strong and vibrant community environment, where all people, including those with disabilities, can enjoy its benefits.
Friends of Belmar Skatepark (FOBS) was formed in 2021 to advocate to improve and reopen our closed public skatepark in the coastal town of Belmar, New Jersey. As of June 2024, we are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit public charity. (Tax ID: 99-3401277) All donations made to Friends of Belmar Skatepark are now tax deductible.
Our History
We began advocating by attending and speaking at many town council meetings, created a social media presence and sold
t-shirts to support our cause and raise awareness with our Save Belmar Skatepark campaign. With no prior experience, but strong community support, we raised enough money to pay for the new design. Next, Belmar formed the Skatepark Design Committee comprised of local skaters, Belmar business owners, and Belmar Councilwoman, Jodi Kinney.
Throughout the design phase, one primary focus has been Inclusivity. We envision the new Belmar Skatepark to be welcoming to All Abilities of skaters, including Challenged Athletes. In fact, a member of the Belmar Skatepark Design Committee, Anthony Ferraro, (Blind Motivational Speaker, Musician, Athlete and Content Creator) has been a driving force in our efforts to make Belmar Skatepark ADA Accessible.
In 2023, the new design was finalized by the Skatepark Design Committee. Now it’s our job to help market the Build Belmar Skatepark Campaign to the skating community and general public, so we can raise enough money for it’s construction.
We need to raise approximately $1.5 Million to build the new Belmar Skatepark. This includes the design, construction, labor and materials. Help us make our vision a reality by donating to the Build Belmar Skatepark Fund today!
